A tallit, also called a tallis, is a Jewish prayer shawl which is first worn on a bat mitzvah or bar mitzvah when a Jewish young adult is called to read from the Torah. The tallit, often given as a gift from a family member, will be kept throughout adulthood, so it is important to choose a tallit that will be cherished now and in the future.
There are many options to choose from when considering your first bat mitzvah tallit. Every Jewish prayer shawl in our shop is suitable for people of all ages and all genders. But because we are often asked, here are some information about how to find a bat mitzvah tallit, and some of our bestselling bat mitzvah tallit below.
First, a bat mitzvah student will want to select which style tallit they would like to wear. A shawl style silk tallit is worn hanging over your shoulders. A tallit gadol is worn in the traditional style with the fabric draped up above your shoulders. In either style tallit, kosher tzitzit strings are tied to each of the four corners of the tallit. Both tallit styles are worn by people of all genders and all sizes.
We offer for sale a wide selection of vibrant, colorful bat mitzvah tallitot including silk tallit, chiffon tallit, blue and black traditional stripes on woven fabric, handwoven tallit, tallitot with abstract designs, and tallit designs inspired from nature. Each tallit set comes with a matching tallit bag.
A bat mitzvah tallit can come in a range of sizes. Our silk and chiffon bat mitzvah tallit are 18" x 72". Our handwoven and traditional woven bat mitzvah tallit are 22" x 72". Our handwoven tallit gadol bat mitzvah tallit are 48" x 72".
Some people inquire about making a smaller size tallit for a bat mitzvah student who is petite. We sell the same size bat mitzvah tallit to students who range widely in height, and our customers have all found the size to work quite well. It is important not to choose a tallit that is too short, so that even after a bat mitzvah student grows taller, the tallit will still fit them in the future. Our tallit size is carefully selected to work well for both teenagers and adults.
We create bat mitzvah tallit from four fabrics.
